Live updates: 1 dead, 1 in serious condition among injured in Maury County

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - A majority of Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky are dealing with severe weather throughout Wednesday.

Updates on damages as we’ve received them:

May 9

6 a.m. - An overnight windstorm damaged roofs, powerlines and trees in Lawrence County early Thursday morning. The damage occurred shortly after 3 a.m. near Ethridge Red Hill Road at Red Hill Center Road, and another area of damage occurred in eastern Lawrence County along Weakley Creek and Gimlet Roads. Units from Lawrence County Fire and rescue cleared blocked roads and checked on the welfare of affected homeowners.

3:51 a.m. - Sumner County EMA said they’ve received water related calls. They added that water has continued to rise through the night. Officials are asking people to assess their areas before leaving home.

May 8

9:51 p.m. - Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office reports the closure of several roads because of flash flooding.

Horton Highway and Allisona Road is closed near the border of Williamson and Rutherford County.

These roads are considered impassible:

  • Barfield Crescent Road and Barfield Road.
  • The 7800 block of Highway 99 (Salem Highway).
  • Christiana and Hoovers Gap Road and Plainview Road.
  • Barfield Crescent Road and Armstrong Valley Road.
  • Buzzard Branch Road and Auldridge Drive

Roads with high water but considered passable are:

  • Allison Road and Eaglecrest Drive
  • Buzzard Branch and Decatur

9:15 p.m. - Crews are continuing rescue operations in Maury County Wednesday night after a confirmed tornado.

UPDATE: We have now deployed our rescue truck and our brush truck to Maury County to assist with search and rescue...

8:58 p.m. - Sumner County experienced flash flooding and flooding throughout the county on Wednesday. Many swift water rescues were worked and flooded homes are being evacuated, according to the Sumner County Emergency Management Agency. More rain is expected in the county.

8:36 p.m. - Interstate 65 South is closed at Mile Marker 110 near White House due to a tree across the interstate blocking all lanes. The Tennessee Department of Transportation is working to clear the area.

8:10 p.m. - Maury Regional Health Center reports one person is dead, and another is in serious condition among five patients Wednesday night as severe storms move through the county.

“This is a developing situation with multiple agencies responding. Please follow the Maury County Office of Emergency Management for more complete information.”

7:33 p.m. - Rescues are underway at homes in Columbia in Maury County.

7:18 p.m. - Damage is being reported in Maury County. Photos were sent in by Donna R of damage to a home near Blackburn Drive.

7:10 p.m. - Severe damage is being reported in the eastern portion of Maury County. Several trees and power lines down. Multiple injuries have been reported.

6:50 p.m. - Multiple areas impacted by flooding in Sumner County. National Weather Service reports flooding is occurring on New Hope Road, Slaters Creek Road and Tyree Springs Road. Swift water rescues are ongoing.

6:19 p.m. - Significant damage is being reported in Maury County along State Route 99 near Interstate 65. Tennessee Department of Transportation is sending crews and equipment to clear the road.

6:08 p.m. - The Maury County Emergency Management Agency reports several properties have been damaged. Some people are trapped in structures, according to the EMA. Maury County Fire is responding.

4:43 p.m. - Robertson County’s EMA director said multiple homes on Ridge Road have been damaged. No injuries have been reported.

4 p.m. - A tree fell on a home in Robertson County.

Storm damage reported in Middle Tennessee.

8:15 a.m. - A home in Greenbrier was struck by lightning causing some damage. Smokey Barn News reported that the Greenbrier Fire Department is on the scene now and that the damage is under control. Traffic lights in the area are going in and out.
