BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — The origin of the humble Pop-Tart breakfast pastry is being portrayed in Jerry Seinfeld's upcoming Netflix movie, "Unfrosted."
The star-studded comedy takes place in 1963 Battle Creek when Kellogg's and Post were in a race to dominate the breakfast pastry industry.
Seinfeld and Melissa McCarthy play Kellogg's employees who are competing with competitor and Post executive, Amy Schumer.
The film appears to play on the dichotomy of the 1960's space race between the U.S. and Russia and the "launch" of Pop-Tarts.
"I believe we have split the atom of breakfast," Seinfeld says to the camera following the space shuttle-style launch of a Pop-Tart from a toaster.
The trailer, which was released Thursday, also shows actors Bill Burr, Hugh Grant, Maria Bakalova, and Dan Levy as having roles in the movie.
News Channel 3 previously spoke with William Post, a Grand Rapids man credited for coming up with the idea for Pop-Tarts 60 years ago as an employee of Keebler.
After passing away in February 2024, Seinfeld shared an Instagram post in Post's honor.
"Godspeed Bill Post" Seinfeld said. "You bent pastry and fruit filling to your will and convinced parents to serve dessert for breakfast. May you find two slots in eternity and rest in lightly brown glory."
"Unfrosted" will be released May 3.
